We are kicking off the year in collaboration with America’s largest and longest running slam poetry festival.

Rooftop Rhythms, The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, and Southern Fried Poetry Slam Inc. are committed to providing a platform for locally based artists to share their original creative work in front of a supportive community. In an effort to foster local talent, we ask that all musicians play or sing original material.
The poetry open mic list is on a first-come, first-served basis for Rooftop Rhythms and will be selected group for Southern Fried Poetry Slam Inc. supporters. Please have your name considered by commenting on this event page or emailing info@rooftoprhythms.org (Rooftop Rhythms Poetry Community) or info@southernfriedpoetryslam.com (Southern Fried Poetry Slam Inc. Community).
Requests to perform will be honored beginning on January 8 until slots are filled. All confirmed performers are required to attend a technical check at 6:30pm GST (Gulf Standard Time) on the day of the event in order to be guaranteed a performance slot.

Southern Fried Poetry Slam is an annual performing arts festival celebrating poetry, spoken word, and community outreach. Workshops, forums, townhalls, and other special events also occur on a year-round basis.

During the first week of June every year, a city in the Southeastern region of the United States plays host to one of the largest Spoken Word and Performance Poetry tournaments in the world and showcases some of the world’s most extraordinary writers, orators and artists whose talents will be on full display as they compete against 200+ poets for cash and prizes, and of course bragging rights to the South!

Rooftop Rhythms Poetry Open Mic Night was founded in 2012 by Dr. Dorian Paul Rogers. In less than a decade, this event has gone on to become the Middle East’s largest and longest running event of its kind. Rooftop Rhythms hosts monthly poetry open mics in English and Arabic as well as a variety of culture, arts, and nightlife events from live music to silent discos. Rooftop Rhythms counts The Arts Center at NYU Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi, Warehouse 421, and Jameel Arts Centre as a few of its esteemed collaborators.
