Dr. Henzbo’s Haiku Hullabaloo
Consists of three different programs:
• A three-session writing workshop for members of Southern Fried Poetry, Inc, intended as a “master class” for writers of haiku. The series is free for all members of Southern Fried Poetry, Inc, and participants will be expected to attend all three days if possible. Each session will be approximately 60 – 75 minutes, using Zoom and Echo.
• A two day head-to-head Haiku competition that is open to 16 competitors. Each bout will take approximately 90 minutes, with octofinals and quarterfinal bouts taking place on Friday and the semifinal and final bouts taking place on Saturday. The competition is free for all members, who can either use the Echo or Discord.
• Renga Writing Party – The practice of writing haiku grew out of a tradition in Japan where poets would get together, drink sake and eat good food, and write linked renga verses together as a party parlor game. This practice became so popular that poets began hosting head-to-head competitions for cash, not unlike the practices of slam today. Attendees will write some linked renga verses together (which consist of alternating haiku and fourteen syllable couplets)
*You must be a registered member of SoFried Poetry to participate in the workshops, H2H Haiku Deathmatch or have a booth at the Expo Hall.
